new mouthpiece of the “Friends,” and before he learned that his communication to Hays was to be given to the press he wrote a letter to Dr. Schnuch. Above the letter, as it was published in the Beobachter, was this headnote:

“In order to correct rumors and misleading reports, we herewith repeat the following explanation of the former editor of the Deutsche Zeitung and the Bund’s press agent, Walter Kappe.”
