H. Sokolski, 85, Philanthropist, Builder, Buried

Funeral services were held yesterday for Harris Sokolski, 85, builder, real estate operator and philanthropist, who died early Sunday morning at his home in Monsey, N. Y.

The services were conducted at the Park West Memorial Chapel, 115 W. Seventy-ninth street, and interment followed in the Union Field Cemetery, Cypress Hills.

Sokolski, who came to this country from Poland at the age of 15, was actively interested in Jewish welfare and religious work. He aided the Daughters of Jacob and Daughters of Israel homes for the aged; was a director of Machzaki Talmud, and was active in the affairs of Yeshiva College and the Wall Street Synagogue.

A well-known real estate operator, owner and builder of large apartment houses in Manhattan, Sokolski was a pioneer advocate for better housing conditions in the lower East Side.

His wife died two years ago. Surviving him are Albert and Samuel Sokolski, sons, and four daughters.
