More than 100 friends of Isaac Lieberman, active worker in the campaign of the Federation for the Support of Jewish Philanthropic Societies, gathered last night at a dinner in the Metropolis Club to discuss the needs of charitable institutions affiliated with the Federation.
The grave financial crisis confronting the Federation was stressed by Lawrence Marx and Mr. Lieberman in informal addresses.
“The greatly increased burden placed on all Federation institutions and the steady decrease in its income—both products of the depression years—have resulted in the unprecedented deficit of $2,071,000,” said Mr. Lieberman. “This huge amount must be raised before December 31, or we risk the most disastrous consequences.
“Failure of Federation’s institutions would be nothing less than a community catastrophe. A quarter of a million unfortunates depend on Federation’s agencies for needed services which government does not provide. The serious situation of Federation places an inescapable obligation on the generosity and public spirit of us all.”
