Dupree and Phillips Sentenced for Fraud

Beard John Dupree was given an indefinite term in the penitentiary yesterday in Special Sessions Court for defrauding Jewish parents. He accepted money in return for promises to secure entrance into medical schools for their sons.

Martin I. Phillips, convicted of conspiring with Dupree, received a three-months’ term in the workhouse. Detective Harry Lichtblau, attached to the District Attorney’s office, made the original arrests.

In 1556 the rabbis of Constantinople sougnt to interdict commerce with Ancona because of oppression which the Maranos of that port suffered.
