Lithuania Pays for Study in Palestine

Granted a stipend by his Ministry of Education, a Lithuanian named Pawuliaatis has spent three years in Palestine taking the course in Judaica offered by the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. Upon Pawuliatis’s return to Lithuania he will become inspector of Jewish schools, will supervise the Yiddish press and will have general charge of Jewish social activities in the country, it was announced here.

Pawuliatis is a former instructor of Lithuanian in a Jewish school and has been known for some time as a “specialist” in Jewish matters. At one time he prepared an exhaustive report for the government on the various Jewish political parties in the country.

Conrad of Winterthur, Burgomaster of Strassburg in 1348, refused the demands of citizens who demanded the arrest of Jews on a charge of poisoning the well. He was deposed.

At the age of eight Frederic Hymen Cowen, born in Jamaica in 1852, composed the music for an operetta entitled “Garibaldi.”
