###uch were the respective state-###nts made to The Jewish Daily Bulletin yesterday by Dr. Hubert Schnuch, national president of the “Friends,” and Anton Haegele, organizer of the recent Yorkville putsch which split the local Nazis into two snarling factions, after an impressive show of Schnuch strength Tuesday night when 1,500 of his supporters gathered in the Yorkville Casino to “heil” him vociferously.
Haegele charged yesterday that the greater part of the audience was “rung in” from outside the city, and Dr. Schnuch countered with the sarcastic question, “Did he take a picture?”
“TRAITORS” AND “SILLY”
Dr. Schnuch’s statement Tuesday night that the New York local is “well rid of the traitors” elicited from Haegele yesterday the single word, “Silly!”
Louis Zahne was titular chief of the New York local yesterday, having been inaugurated into office by Schnuch Tuesday night to replace Haegele.
From the platform of the Casino, Dr. Schnuch denied vehemently Anton Haegele’ frequent charges that the national administration was misappropriating Nazi funds. A procession of official representatives of thirteen locals of the “Friends” in the metropolitan area before the platform brought vociferous “heils” from the auditors.
“Haegele played into the hands of the Jews,” declared Dr. Schnuch, and Zahne, introduced by Schnuch as “your new leader,” elaborated on this statement by declaring that the revolt was the “last attempt of Samuel Untermyer to disrupt the German-American movement.”
“After tonight,” said Zahne, “we will make it a rule that the last word has been said on our internal troubles.”
