The French government issued strict instructions today to frontier and customs officials not to permit refugees from the Saar to remain in Paris or in Alsace Lorraine.
The refugees will, however, be permitted to enter France in accordance with the French tradition of hospitality for politically persecuted groups. They will be confined to the western and south-western sections of France and will be subjected to rigid governmental control.
French papers point out that the refugees will aggravate an already bad economic situation, but declare that they must be admitted. Thousands of refugees from the Saar are expected to enter France once the Saar is handed over to Germany.
In recent months there has been much ill feeling toward the refugees, and the French police conducted an anti-alien drive which resulted in the expulsion of many refugees.
