So great is the lack of laborers in the Haifa port that a number of stevedores who arrived today from Salonica were snatched up for employment in the harbor area as soon as they had landed.
Despite the fact that 2,000 men are now working at the port there is still a labor scarcity. There are 300 Jews among the workers, but most of the laborers are Arabs from Syria. Among them are numerous children.
The stevedores work in day and night shifts and yet find it impossible to keep pace with the volume of work. Another twenty Jewish laborers are expected to arrive from Poland this month.
