Mrs. Felix Warburg will be the guest of honor at a tea given by the New York chapter of Hadassah next Thursday at the home of Mrs. Joseph Stroock, 998 Fifth avenue. Mrs. Warburg, honorary chairman with Mrs. Herbert Lehman of the New York chapter of Hadassah, is leaving shortly for Palestine.
More than 200 women will attend the tea. Mrs. Irma Lindheim, who recently abandoned her New York activities to settle in Palestine as a pioneer worker, will be the guest speaker. Her subject will be “The Romance of Palestine.” Mrs. David de Sola Pool is president of the New York chapter of Hadassah.
A coffee dance sponsored by the Temple Israel Union will be held this Sunday evening at the Temple Israel Community Center, 210 West Ninety-first street. According to the tickets, the prospective guests are asked to dine at home that evening but to come to the dance at 8:30 o’clock for coffee and petits-fours. The idea of such a dance is new, and the affair is expected to be successful.
Another invitation for this Sunday evening is extended by the Intermediate Group of Young Israel of Washington Heights. This organization, whose headquarters are at 4046 Broadway, is holding an open house on this evening, the first of a series of Sunday night open houses with special entertainment. For this Sunday night the group plans a bridge and anagrams party, followed by dancing. Admission is free.
On Monday at Steinberg’s, Broadway and Eighty-first street, the Mizrachi Women’s Organization of America will hold a farewell luncheon for Mrs. Bessie Gotsfeld, who is returning to her home in Palestine. Her visit to the various chapters have stimulated formation of many new groups. The Mizrachi Women’s Organization has forty-eight chapters throughout the country, and decided, at the recent convention to Detroit, to embark upon a period of expansion. All the groups are active in cultural and philanthropic activities. Mrs. Samuel Fasten is chairman of the ways and means committee.
Through the efforts of Mrs. Abraham Shapiro, national president of the Mizrachi Women’s Organization, Abraham and Strauss has introduced a kosher kitchen which will be available to Orthodox Jewish organizations for their social functions. Prospect Park chapter, the first group to take advantage of this opportunity, arranged a kosher lunch party.
Hadassah announced that in 250 cities, scattered throughout the country, a series of “donor” luncheons will be held from January 25 to April 25 by its chapters. These luncheons are planned for the purpose of raising funds for the Hadassah Medical Organization in Palestine, and Mrs. Max A. Slavin, national fund-raising chairman, estimates that more than 25,000 women will attend these affairs. The luncheons will range from $5 to $30 a plate, and the members are expected to earn or contribute their donations.
On January 30 the Federation of Jewish Women’s Organizations is holding its fifteenth annual convention and luncheon at the Hotel Astor. More than 2,500 will be present, and Mrs. David E. Goldfarb will welcome thirty organizations which have joined the Federation during the past year. The morning session of the convention begins at 9:45 o’clock. Mrs. Goldfarb will preside. Mrs. A. Jack Davidson is chairman of the convention and Mrs. Edward N. Mayer chairman of the luncheon. The topic of the day will be: “How Can Women Contribute Toward the Development of Security?” Dr. Solomon Loewenstein, executive director of the Federation of Jewish Philanthropic Societies, will be the guest speaker of the morning. The afternoon program will include the annual address of the president of the Federation and the presentation of the “foremost personalities of the day.” WOR will broadcast the afternoon program.
The Home for Aged and Infirm Hebrews, at 105th and 106th streets, west of Columbus avenue, invites its friends and members to attend the annual meeting of donors, associate donors, patrons, members and subscribers, which will take place at the Home on January 27 at 11 a. m. The president will read his report and seven trustees will be elected for terms of three years.
