Dr. Samuel H. Goldenson, rabbi of Congregation Emanu-El, will celebrate his first anniversary as spiritual leader of the congregation tomorrow with an address on “A Year in New York — Some Thoughts and Observations.”
A year ago, shortly after assuming his charge, Dr. Goldenson, in an interview in the Jewish Daily Bulletin, asked for far-sighted wisdom in coping with the problems of the Jews in Germany. He also called for a “nearer approximation of the religious faith professed by various groups and a finer appreciation of the meeting of culture. Jews must also reaffirm in word and deed the spiritual teachings of Israel and of the lessons of Jewish history in such wise as to give our existence and continuance a greater sense of moral purposefulness,” he declared.
Dr. Goldenson was rabbi of Congregation Rodeph Shalom in Pittsburgh before coming to New York.
