The Duke of Argyll was once on the point of clapping the late Lord Melchett, English Jewish peer, into the dungeon of Dunstaffnage Castle, it is revealed in the autobiography of Sir Lionel Earle, published under the title of “Turn Over the Page.”

The threat arose in 1922 as the result of a distasteful order issued by Lord Melchett, then holding office as Commissioner of Works.
