Much speculation has been aroused here as a result of an order published today in the official Palestine Gazette, indicating that changes in the Palestine citizenship laws may be expected.

The announcement in the Palestine Gazette modifies Article 59 of the Principal Order, which regulates citizenship rights in the country. It states definitely that “every inhabitant of Palestine who is not a Palestine citizen at present will be considered a foreigner.”

The announcement adds that equality will be practiced towards citizens and non-citizens as far as the jurisdiction of the government over all Palestine inhabitants is concerned.

The Palestine Gazette is the official organ of the Palestine government, publishing only official decrees and ordinances. With today’s publication of the modification of Article 59, the change in the Principal Order goes into immediate effect.
