The anti-Jewish propaganda, led by the Venizelist press, reached such a point that Jewish leaders were compelled to appeal for protection to the central authorities, especially to Governor Rhallis of Salonica. Governor Rhallis, who is friendly towards the Jews, has issued a public warning against spreading racial hatred in the press, but since no censorship exists in Greece, the Venizelist papers continued to ignore this warning.
