“No student on the campus is more welcome than the Jew,” Dr. James J. McConaughy, president of Wesleyan University, told the Men’s Club of Temple Beth Israel in a lecture on education and democracy. Dr. McConaughy recently wrote a letter to fifteen pre-medical students of Wesleyan warning them of the restrictions against Jewish students trying to enter medical schools.
