An interesting case of a Jewish woman leaving her entire fortune to Rabbi I. Hacohen Kook, Chief Rabbi of Palestine, is now attracting wide attention in Poland.
The woman, widow of a well-known Warsaw Jewish philanthropist, Mendel Peretz, had been residing in Palestine for the last two years. In her will she stated definitely that all her capital should be transferred to Rabbi Kook and that nothing was to be given to her children or other relatives.
The widow’s relatives today applied to the British consul in Warsaw for a visa to proceed to Warsaw in order to contest her will. They have also appealed to the Warsaw rabbinate to intercede with Rabbi Kook not to accept the fortune.
