The assertion that Abraham was not a Jew is made in the London Daily Mail. The paper argues as follows:

The Jewish nation did not exist in the time of Abraham, who was a Hebrew.

Judah gave his name to the race—and Judah was a great-grandson of Abraham, from whom the Ishmaelites, for example, were also descended.

Neither was Moses a Jew, but one of the tribe of Levi, and the name Jew is not used in the Scriptures until a period is reached many years after the division of the people into the two kingdoms of Israel and Judah.

WHY REICH ENVOY WAS RECALLED

The Catholic Herald reports the following incident from Rumania:

The German minister in Bucharest,. Herr von Denn-Schmidt, who presented his credentials only last November, has been suddenly recalled. In diplomatic quarters it is believed that he is having differences with the Nazi party.

Herr von Dehn-Schmidt is a Catholic, and two months ago the Stuermer, Herr Julius Streicher’s anti-Jewish organ, reported that he had been seen kissing the ring of the Archbishop of Dublin. He was previously minister to the Irish Free State.

SCOT PAPER DECRIES PREJUDICE IN ENGLAND

Under the title “Jew-Baiting,” the Edinburgh Evening Dispatch carries the following editorial:

Jew-baiting in a British Dominion is something new and surprising. The outrage is on a small scale and apparently confined to one area, but practices of that sort, once begun and tolerated, might spread, for there are always violent and harebrained persons enough in any community to stir up strife if common sense and authority do not intervene.

This new phenomenon has broken out in the Victorian elections, and the victim of the propaganda is the retiring member of a Melbourne constituency. Suddenly, from some unknown source, unsigned handbills have been scattered over the constituency calling upon electors not to trust, trade with, or buy from Jews. Whether the movement is religious or political is not yet clear. The appeal to join the “Christian Gentiles League and keep the world from oppression and depression” is no clue. The rankest revolutionist, like the devil, may disguise himself in the cloak of religion.
