At the session the convention adopted resolutions against lynching and for State ratification of Child Labor Amendments and for legalization of dissemination of contraceptive information by physicians, hospitals and licensed clinics.
The Southern delegates were the most emphatic in voicing their affirmation of the strongly worded anti – lynching resolution which read:
HIT LYNCH LAW
“Whereas the killing and burning alive of human beings by mobs in the United States is a reproach upon our nation throughout the civilized world; and whereas, since 1882, 5,068 human beings have been lynched in the United States, with less than a dozen convictions, only nominal prison terms being given to any of the lynchers, be it resolved that the Council endorses Federal enforcement of adequate laws against lynching.”
Other speakers participating with Dr. Clinchy in the seminar on racial relations were Rabbi Louis Binstock and Monsignor Peter H. M. Wynhoven.
The convention, which opened on Sunday evening, will continue through Friday.
