Government action was taken today against the proposal to dismiss all Jewish employes from municipal jobs in Lodz, submitted to the municipality here by the anti-Semitic National Democratic aldermen.

The government commissar, acting as the president of the municipal council, refused today to permit a vote on the proposal, thus making it impossible for the Endek aldermen to bring the case up for discussion again.

The acting of the government commissar followed after the civic council, at its session today, approved of a plan to limit award of the municipal prize for the best literary work of the year to “aryan” candidates only, Thirty-five National Democratic Councilors and one German Councilor voted for the “aryanization” of the prize, while only twenty-nine members of the council voted against it. The twenty-nine consisted of Jews and members of the government party as well as of the Polish Socialist party.

After the results of the voting were made known, the government commissar announced that the decision contravenes the Polish constitution.
