Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon for Mrs. Mary Markowitz, wife of Harris Markowitz, 345 New Jersey avenue, Brooklyn. Mrs. Markowitz, who was 72 years old when she died after a long illness Tuesday, was the supporter of twenty-one charitable organizations and societies, of which seven operated in Palestine.
Jews play an important role in the Barnum and Bailey’s circus which opens at Madison Square Garden today. One of them is Samuel Gumpertz, manager of the show. Several of the outstanding performers are Jewish, notably, Felix Adler, one of the most popular of the clowns.
