The tenth anniversary of the founding of the Hebrew University was celebrated today on Mount Scopus, where the university stands, with an impressive ceremony in which Sir Arthur Grenfell Wauchope, the High Commissioner of Palestine, participated.
The ceremony opened with a procession of workers, scientists, students and school children. Dr. J. L. Magnes, chancellor of the university; Nahum Sokolow, president of the World Zionist Organization, and Dr. Chaim Weizmann, ex-president, were the principal speakers.
Sir Arthur stated in his address that he is highly pleased with the development of the university.
“Lord Balfour, who laid the cornerstone of the university, would see the realization of his hopes if he were now alive,” he said.
Dr. Magnes reviewed the decade of the existence of the university and outlined its plans for the future. The ceremony concluded in the evening with a special concert.
