A resolution was adopted today by the students’ organization in Rumania to submit a memorandum to the Minister of the Interior explaining that the recent anti-Jewish disorders in Rumania were not the work of the students but of the young Liberal party members.
A statement signed by 150 Christian students is published in the Rumania press today, expressing sympathy with the Jewish students and blaming politicians for the disorders which took place last week in the Bucharest University where Jewish students were attacked. The statement emphasizes that “the Jews are not the cause of unemployment among the intellectuals,” as the anti-Semitic leaders claim.
No answer has been received as yet from the Premier to a memorandum submitted to him last week by the Jewish party, demanding strict enforcement of the laws to protect the rights of the Jewish population and to ensure its safety.
“The Jews must insist that their problem, which is now becoming an international problem, be brought before the League of Nations for study and for definite solution.”
This advice was given today to the Jews of Rumania by Dr. Vaida-Voevod, former Rumanian Premier who is held responsible for stirring up the anti-Jewish riots which occurred last week throughout the country and which resulted in the closing down of the Bucharest University.
