Arthur Hays Sulzberger, only son-in-law of the late Adolph S. Ochs, was chosen yesterday successor of his father-in-law as publisher of the New York Times and president of the New York Times Company. The directors also authorized the creation of the post of general manager, and Col. Julius Ochs-Adler, nephew of the late publisher, was chosen to fill it. Col. Adler also continues as vice-president and treasurer.
The vacancy on the board of directors created by the death of Mr. Ochs was filled by the appointment of Godfrey N. Nelson, now secretary of the New York Times Company. The other directors are Hoyt Miller, Iphigene Ochs Sulzberger, Col. Adler and Mr. Sulzberger, the last three being the executors and trustees of the estate of Mr. Ochs.
Mr. Sulzberger, who will be 44 years old September 12, is a native of New York City. He is a graduate of Columbia University.
