This innovation, the statement says, was explained by the government as a measure to prevent the entry of Jewish immigrants under alleged fictitious marriages.
The statement adds that of the total of immigration certificates granted by the government to the Jewish Agency for the current six months, 4,030 were given for single persons only.
The statement further confirms the J.T.A. report that the 4,030 visas for unmarried “chalutzim” (pioneers) will go, as provided by the government, to 1,865 men and 2,165 women.
The procedure restricting a portion of the immigration visas to unmarried persons only, is new only with regard to men. As regards women, this restriction has been practiced by the government in previous labor schedules.
