A “White Book” against Nazi Germany was issued yesterday by the American Jewish Committee, summarizing the anti-Jewish discriminations in the Reich and giving the complete texts of discriminatory legislation passed in the last two years by the Nazi government.
The “White Book,” numbering 192 pages, lists all the laws that have been enacted in the official campaign to exterminate German Jews and German Christians of Jewish descent, as well as Germans married to Jews.
NON-JEWS INCLUDED
“Although the book deals mainly with the Jews,” the American Jewish Committee declares in the introduction, “it must be pointed out that many millions of non-Jews, too, are direct sufferers from oppression in Germany. They are suffering because they are believers in democracy, or because they are Catholics, or Socialists, or Communists, or internationalists, or pacifists.
“Yet,” the introduction continues, “these groups can bring about an improvement in their condition by becoming reconciled to the Nazi principle. The lot of Jews and Christians of Jewish descent, however, will remain precarious as long as the existing so-called ‘racial principle’ obtains, on the ground of which they have been deprived of their universally recognized natural rights.”
CURBS LISTED
Enumerating the laws issued by the Nazi government to exclude Jews from civil service, to deny them citizenship rights and to restrict them in the practice of law, medicine, journalism and other professions, the White Book points out that, with certain exceptions, almost all non-Aryans were dismissed from the civil service and had their service contracts with public or semi-public institutions annulled.
As a result of the anti-Jewish laws, practically half of the Jews gainfully employed were ousted from their posts, the White Book reports.
25,000 LOST JOBS
Figures brought out in the White Book show that a total of 15,000 Jews with 13,000 dependents were ousted from civil service and liberal professions. In addition, 10,000 Jews with about 10,000 dependents were deprived of their jobs and income in public health or social welfare work. The Jews are being forced to establish schools at their own expense in order to escape the distortion of the mentalities of their 63,000 children.
The White Book declares that “Jews have been almost totally eliminated also from commercial and trading enterprises.” This process of elimination in the large concerns came through the forces of “coordination” or Nazification. In the
