The plight of Jewish doctors in Vienna as a result of the anti-Jewish discrimination in State and Municipal institutions, is described today in a report by the Union of Jewish Doctors in Austria, made public here.
“The position of the young Jewish doctors in the medical institutions continus to be the subject of repeated effort, petitions, representations and negotiations,” the report says. “We must regretfully state that we have not achieved anything in this regard.”
The report complains that Jews continue to be passed over in medical appointments, except for isolated instances. The principal of ignoring Jewish applicants is being carried so far that positions are left vacant for no other reason than that there are no other candidates but Jews, the report emphasizes.
In the General Hospital of Vienna, there are only two Jews now among the sixty-one doctors and assistants. The Franz Josef Hospital has only seven Jews among the forty medical assistants. These seven will be leaving the hospital on October 31. The Wilhelmina Hospital has only two Jews among its eighty medical assistants. In the Rudolf Hospital there is only one Jew.
