Auto Crash Kills Cutler, Creator of Puppet Show

Yosl Cutler, well known Jewish humorist, cartoonist and creator of the Yiddish Marionette Theatre, was killed in an automobile accident Tuesday in the vicinity of Minneapolis, it was learned h### yesterday. He was on his way Denver.

The body will be brought from Minneapolis to New York on Friday. Preparations are being made for a funeral ceremony to be held on Sunday. The funeral will be arranged by the International Workers Order, of which Cutler was a member.

Mr. Cutler was thirty-nine years old. He was born in Troyanetz, Russia, and came to the United States at the age of 15. He was a student of art at the National Academy and at the Jewish Educational Alliance. His first short story, “The False History of the World,” was published in New York in 1921.

Ten years ago Cutler, in collaboration with another Jewish artist, Z. Maud, started the first Yiddish Marionette Theatre in New York, known as the Maudicut Theatre, This theatre later became a travelling marionette show which gained a reputation not only in America but also in many European countries. The last performance was given by Cutler on Monday evening in Minneapolis.

Mr. Cutler was also the author of “Muntergang,” a book of poems and short stories. He illustrated a number of works of other authors and was a member of the staff ### the Freiheit, a New York Jewish daily.
