Despite plentiful employment, brisk trade and the general atmosphere of prosperity in Tel Aviv, there are scores of children there suffering from neglect and even hunger. In an appeal issued by the “Jubilee Fund for Our Children” under the auspices of the municipality, it is pointed out that many neglected children live on the streets without a roof to cover them, uneducated, and uncared for.
In order to tackle the problem adequately it is proposed to set up a series of social institutions such as: Day nurseries for babies and older children; a school for deserted children; school for backward children; sanatorium for weak children; workshops for learning trades; school for young offender clubs for difficult pupils; evening courses in domestic science and Hebrew for girls, and orphanages and children’s Summer camps.
The residents of Tel Aviv are asked to contribute for these purposes to the “Jubilee Fund” by means of annual contributions of £12, which will provide for one child.
