For the first time in the history of modern navigation, libraries in Yiddish and in Hebrew will be installed on the French steamer Normandie, the world’s largest and most luxurious liner, it was announced here today by the French Line.
More than 28,000 pieces of Limoges china and nearly 3,500 articles of cutlery, have been acquired by the Normandie for the kosher kitchen service on the steamer. The kosher service, according to today’s announcement, is conducted by a Jewish staff, including Jewish cooks, Jewish waiters and Jewish supervisors.
Emphasizing that the Line is anxious to secure a maximum of Jewish passengers, the announcement states that the Normandie will have a special room for Jewish religious services, with a Torah, offered by M. Pernikoff, director of the Palestine Lloyd in Paris. The library will also include the complete Talmud, Ein Yakob, Mishnayot, Shulchan Aruch and other Jewish religious books.
