Prime Minister Gomboes received the German-Jewish author Otto Zarek, who has been living in Budapest for the last eighteen months and thanked him for his book on Kossuth, the Hungarian national hero. The book has been hailed as an epoch-making work.
The Premier had a long and friendly talk with Mr. Zarek. He discussed with him particularly that part of his book which deals with the Jewish combatants in the Hungarian wars for liberation and where he discloses that one-twelfth of those participating in these wars were Jews.
Mr. Zarek quotes many authentic sources showing that hosts of Jewish volunteers enlisted in all battalions fighting for Hungary’s freedom. They fought bravely and with distinction, the book points out. Many of them fell on the battlefield and a large number were promoted to the ranks of officers.
The bravery of the Jewish fighters was recognized by the entire army, according to the documents in Mr. Zareks’ book.
