“We are a minority constituting ten per cent of the population of Poland and we feel ourselves degraded by this new electoral law,” Dr. Rottenstreich declared, emphasizing that the Jews consider the maintenance of the proportional electoral system as the only just solution.
Spokesmen of the anti-Semitic National Democratic Party (Endeks) expressed the fear that the Jews might be able to secure in Lodz, Wilno, Cracow and Lwow, more seats than the four apparently saved for them.
The rapporteur for the government on the Constitutional Committee, Deputy Podoski, thereupon assured the anti-Semitic spokesmen that “the Jews cannot be certain of more than four seats.”
“Two seats will be secured by them in Warsaw and two in the rest of the country,” the deputy stated.
