Los Angeles (Jul. 2)
A vigorous denunciation of Father Charles E. Coughlin, head of the Union for Social Justice was voiced today by Eddie Cantor, screen and radio star, in an address to 1,000 delegates attending a district convention of B’nai B’rith here.
“Father Coughlin said in Detroit a few months ago that Jews have only three enemies to fear—Bernard Baruch, Eddie Cantor and the motion picture industry,” Cantor declared.
“We Jews have nothing to fear from good Christians,” the popular comedian asserted. “We are their brothers and sisters. But I am afraid of people who pretend to be good Christians and those who are not good Jews.”
The actor scored Father Coughlin as a person who “has not an atom of sincerity in his entire system.”
