Herman Halberstadt, a Jewish dealer in chemical supplies, has been indicted here for insulting Adolf Hitler, Nazi dictator of Germany. He will shortly be brought to trial.
Halberstadt had received a letter from a German chemical firm inquiring why he had stopped buying from them. They offered him the best terms to renew trade relations with them. Halberstadt, however, wrote on the envelope “As long as Hitlerism reigns in Germany, I will not buy German goods” and sent the letter back.
