The Nazis, who are in the majority in the Danzig Senate, have no right to exclude Jews from public
office, according to a report submitted here today by the committee of legal experts appointed last May by the League of Nations to investigate the legality of Jewish claims against the Free City Senate.
No election results, says the report, can overrule the statutes of the Danzig constitution.
The jurists report also states that the campaign of defamation against the Jews leads to disturbances and therefore should not be tolerated by the police. The anti-Jewish boycott, too, should be suppressed, the report states.
The jurists commission was appointed by the League following a statement by the Danzig government that it is ready to repeal its anti-Jewish legislation if it is found to be in violation of the Danzig constitution.
In a petition submitted to the League, the Jews made the following demands:
1 — To repeal nine unconstitutional laws which affect the rights of Jewish citizens of Danzig.
2 — To institute changes in the Danzig administration in order to prevent anti-Jewish discrimination in the future.
3 — To organize adequate protection for all citizens of the Free City against defamation.
4 — To take strict measures against anti-Jewish boycott propaganda in Danzig.
