The threat of a teachers’ strike in most of Palestine’s Hebrew schools was contained in an ultimatum given today by the Hebrew Teachers’ Union to the Vaad Leumi, Jewish national council in Palestine.

The ultimatum declares that unless the wage scale of Hebrew teachers is increased, the teachers will not return to work on Monday, after Rosh Hashonah.

The Vaad Leumi issued a communique stating that lack of funds makes it impossible to meet the teachers’ demand.

A special meeting of the council is being called for tomorrow, in the hope that some means of conciliation may be found.
