Anti-jewish Drive Gains Momentum on 3 Fronts in Reich

The anti-Jewish drive gained momentum today with attacks against the Jewish position in Germany being concentrated on three distinct fronts–charity, business and the legal profession.

In an internal order, Propaganda Minister Paul Joseph Goebbels demanded that the word Winter be eleminated from the name describing the special campaign German Jews were forced to inaugurate when they were ordered excluded from participation in the general Winter relief drive.

The same order directs the Nazi press to refrain from mentioning the Jewish drive, in order to avoid “confusion with the general campaign.” At the same time the Jewish press has been ordered to describe the Jewish relief campaign as the “Jewish Charities Campaign.”

German Jewry was in a state bordering on panic today as a result of Minister of the Interior Wilhelm Frick’s announcement that the government is planning “legal measures” to restrict the economic activities of the Jews. Frick’s announcement, which marked the first time that a cabinet member has officially announced government plans for the ousting of Jews from commerce, was widely published in today’s German press.

In the legal profession, it became clear today that even those Jewish lawyers who have been previously exempt from provisions of the “Aryan Clause” will soon be deprived of the right to practice. Indication of this development’s imminence was contained in a circular sent out by the Ministry of Justice which states that all lawyers are required to register anew with the department.

The new registration, the circular specifies, must show proof of racial origin as qualification under the “Aryan clause.” The order is in accord with the speeches made at Nuremberg recently in which it was demanded that not a single Jew be admitted to German courts. If put into effect, the order will add hundreds of Jewish families to the number put in desperate straits as a result of disbarment of Jewish lawyers since the advent of the Nazi regime.
