The Kulturbund, Jewish cultural group organized under the aegis of the Nazis, was suddenly notified yesterday that it would not be permitted to produce Mozart’s operetta “Cosi fan tutte.” Reason for the action was ascribed by the Nazi department for “Non-Aryan” Culture to the fact that Mozart was an “Aryan” and hence Jews should not be permitted to produce his works.

The prohibition was decreed on the eve of the operetta’s premiere despite the fact that Hans Hinkel, director of “non-Aryan” culture had given his approval of the program before rehearsals started.

The Kulturbund was recently organized with the view of pushing Jews back to a cultural ghetto. Admission to their affairs is by card only and holders are required to have photographs pasted on the cards for purposes of identification. “Aryans” are not permitted to attend functions of the Kulturbund.
