Lord Passfield, former British colonial secretary, recently admitted having made “a muddle of things” in handling the question of a Jewish homeland in Palestine, according to F.G. Bowles, Labor candidate in North Hackney.
Mr. Bowles made the assertion during an address on Palestine at a Zionist meeting in his constituency. He said that in a conversation with Lord Passfield, the former colonial secretary had admitted his failure.
Lord Passfield was colonial secretary in 1931 and author of the “White Paper,” which restricted Jewish immigration and land-holding in Palestine. It was modified after conferences between Lord Passfield and Dr. Chaim Weizmann, president of the World Zionist Organization.
