Abram Vevyurka, Soviet Yiddish Writer, Dead at 48

Word was received here today of the death on Sunday of Abram Vevyurka, prominent Yiddish author, critic and playwright, in Kiev at the age of 48. Born in Poland, Vevyurka prepared for the rabbinate but was later drawn into literary and political pursuits, becoming a leader of the Poale Zionist Party. Vevyurka edited papers in Berlin, London and Antwerp. After the Communist revolution, he went to Russia to live and became a staff member of the Soviet daily Emess.
