Tribute was paid to the memory of the late Aldermanic President Bernard S. Deutsch of New York in a resolution adopted yesterday at a meeting of the Board of Deputies of British Jews, British Jewish representative body. The action was taken after Neville Laski, president of the board, had eulogized Mr. Deutsch.
Referring to the departure yesterday of League of Nations High Commissioner for Refugees James G. McDonald for New York on the Manhattan, Mr. Laski lauded him for his “work in the face of superhuman odds.” Mr. McDonald is expected to resign his League post by the end of the year.
The board announced its approval of Haavara, Palestine trustee office for the execution of the Germany-Palestine transfer agreement.
Leonard G. Montefiore, president of the Anglo-Jewish Association, charged in an address that the German Nazis have been connected with recent anti-Semitic disorders throughout Poland. He declared:
“Berlin is now the centre of the manufacture of anti-Semitic feeling. This is especially true in the case of the recent events in Poland.”
