J.D.C. Makes $5,000 Emergency Grant to Famine Area in Rumania

Serious conditions threaten half of the Jewish population of Bessarabia and part of the population of Moldavia, provinces of Rumania, according to information received by the Joint Distribution Committee, it was revealed today by Joseph C. Hyman, secretary of the Committee. An immediate emergency grant of $5,000 for feeding Jews in the famine area has been made, Mr. Hyman said.

The J.D.C. has contributed approximately $30,000 to rehabilitation work in Rumania during the past year. Most of this money has been spent in child health and welfare work. In addition, grants of $163,000 were made by the American Joint Reconstruction Foundation for the work of the loan kasses in Rumania. The Joint Distribution Committee and the Jewish Colonization Association are equal partners in the Foundation.
