While all shops in Jerusalem remained closed in protest against high rents, the Municipal Council voted today to recommend to the Palestine Government the extension to Jerusalem of a rent restrictions ordinance regulating the rentals which can be charged.

The shopkeepers had pressed for a municipal ordinance fixing maximum rents. They claimed that rentals had risen to inordinate levels.
