Der Angriff, Nazi organ and mouthpiece of Propaganda Minister Paul Joseph Goebbels, today launched a new anti-Jewish drive, keynote of which is the accusation that Jews are smuggling money out of Germany and thus damaging the country’s financial machinery.
The accusation is interpreted in well-informed circles as indication that Dr. Goebbels is seeking to blame the Jews for pending modifications of the currency system. If the modifications are carried out, they will affect the masses of wage earners. By blaming the Jews, it is felt the consequent ill-feeling over the new currency laws will be diverted from the Government to them.
Meanwhile, the Jewish position, even without the new drive continued to grow steadily worse throughout Germany.
A report received here today stated that twenty-one Jewish communities have been forced to sell their synagogue properties. Also, a dozen communities, because of emigration and impoverishment of remaining members, have been forced to dissolve in recent months.
