Steel-helmeted police patrolled the city last night after false rumors that Jews had Killed four Hauranis in a Passover ritual resulted in an Arab near-riot and an attack on the police station.
An enraged mob raided the Eastern European quarter of the city, attacking Jews and injuring several. As a report spread that the bodies of the supposedly dead Hauranis were concealed in the police station, they stormed the station-house.
Police finally succeeded in convincing the mob that the rumor had no foundation, and finally managed to restore order.
The Hebrew daily, Doar Hayom, charged that the incident could be traced to Nazi propaganda in Palestine. Falastin, Arab Christian daily, joined in rebuking the Arabs for “believing nonsense.”
