Tel Aviv Retains Control of Police Department

The long struggle between this all-Jewish municipality and the Palestine Government over control of the local police department was ended today with the department remaining under the authority of the Municipal Council.

Refusal of the Government to recognize the autonomy of the city’s police force had been one of the reasons 75-year-old Mayor Meier Dizengoff declined to run for re-election, although he later recanted.
