German war veterans of Jewish origin will henceforth have to join the Association of Jewish War Veterans in Germany if they wish to enjoy the special benefits granted war veterans in addition to the usual pensions, according to a ruling of the Reichsministry of Labor.
The ministry’s order provides that the Association of Jewish War Veterans is to take care of “non-Aryan” veterans who are barred from the German bodies because of their racial origin.
The Jewish war veterans’ organization has extended its work this year to include care of the parents, widows and orphans of the 12,000 Jews who fell at the front while fighting for Germany. The organization, with 360 local offices throughout the Reich, is recognized by the Government and is aided in its work by special grants from the central Jewish agencies established to assist Jewish victims of the Nazi regime.
