The significant statement that the Colonial Office is in possession of information relating to the role of certain nations in the current Palestine disorders, which “is not in the public interest to disclose” was made by Colonial Secretary William Ormsby-Gore before the House of Commons today.
Replying to questions by R.J. Fletcher, Laborite, Mr. Ormsby-Gore said the British Government was taking all practical measures to counteract the “hostile foreign propaganda” in the Holy Land.
The Colonial Secretary said there has been little apparent change in the Palestine situation since June 19, the date of the formal debate on Palestine. He pointed out that the country’s terrain abets sniping, sabotage and impedes military actions.
“We are doing all we can,” he declared, “by military reinforcements to restore order in the whole of the country.”
