Several political, liberal and labor leaders were on record today in support of the petition of Jewish and Christian organizations to the League of Nations to intercede in behalf of persecuted groups in Germany.
Sol M. Stroock, chairman of the American Jewish Committee, said in a radio address last night the document had been endorsed by ex-Governor Alfred E. Smith, Lillian D. Wald, social worker; Norman Thomas, Socialist candidate for president; Dr. Alvin Johnson, Miss Carrie Chapman Catt, Miss Josephine Schain, Miss Rose Schneiderman and Miss Dorothy Detzer.
Samuel Goldstein, acting Grand Master of the Independent Order Brith Abraham, in a statement made public today, while praising the purposes of the petition, criticized its authors for not widening its scope to include other countries and for not securing the cooperation of the American Jewish Congress and the World Jewish Congress in its sponsorship.
