Jewish Essayist Reported Executed by Soviet As Spy

Newspapers here reported today that Max Erik, Jewish essayist, historian and former Polish army officer, who recently was arrested by Russian police in Kiev for alleged espionage, has been executed.

Erik, whose real name was Zalman Merkin, had been a resident of Russia for a number of years.
