It was reliably learned today that the Brazilian Government has vetoed a privately sponsored project to settle 10,000 German-Jewish refugees along the Sao Laurenso River in the State of Matto Grosso. The project, proposed by the Latifundists, an organization of large estate owners, had the backing of Matto Grosso.

According to Dr. Messinger, leader of the German-Jewish colony here the Federal Government is opposed to the project on the grounds that the suggested territory is wild and unsuitable for colonization by Europeans.
