Funeral services were held at the Central Jewish Institute this morning for George M. Hyman, its executive director, who died yesterday at the age of 36 after an illness of two months.
Mr. Hyman, formerly executive director of the Jewish Community Center of Syracuse, gained fame in the Palestine Arab riots of 1929 when, as registrar of the Hebrew University and the ranking officer in charge at the time, he led the successful defense of the university from Arab onslaughts. His heroism prevented serious damage to the university buildings.
Surviving Mr. Hyman are his widow, a son, a sister and his mother.
